Mark Rydell, director of 'On Golden Pond', dies aged 97

Mark Rydell, the director, producer and actor best known for the Oscar-nominated drama "On Golden Pond", has died at the age of 97. He also directed "The Rose" and "For the Boys" starring Bette Midler, who announced his death on Instagram. As an actor, Rydell appeared in Robert Altman's "The Long Goodbye" and Woody Allen's "Hollywood Ending".
