JWST spots galaxy with three supermassive black holes just 1.3 billion years after Big Bang

The James Webb Space Telescope has detected a galaxy that existed just 1.3 billion years after the Big Bang, containing three supermassive black holes. Two are near the galaxy's centre and will merge soon, while the third is more distant and will merge much later. The discovery suggests that black hole mergers were a major driver behind the enormous masses of supermassive black holes seen in today's galaxies.
