Polish farmer gives away 400 tonnes of onions for free — buyers offer just 18 gr per kilo
A farmer in Radostowo, Lower Silesia, has left 350–400 tonnes of white onions unharvested and is offering them free to anyone willing to pick them, because the wholesale price of 18 groszy per kilogram leaves him earning only 8,100 zł per hectare while production costs reach 16,000 zł. Farmer Maciej Siekiera — who gave away his peppers last year in a similar protest — warns that most small and medium Polish farms will collapse within a decade.
