Microsoft patches flaw that let attackers disable antivirus with a single click

Researchers from the University of Birmingham and Durham University presented a critical vulnerability in consumer DDR4/DDR5 memory, dubbed "Download more RAM," at the USENIX Security Symposium. The flaw bypassed Windows VBS and HVCI protections, allowing attackers to disable antivirus software and take full system control with minimal user interaction — essentially a single click. Microsoft patched the vulnerability, catalogued as CVE-2026-23670, before it was exploited in the wild.
