James Webb telescope finds water just 0.55 light-years from Milky Way's black hole

Using the James Webb Space Telescope's MIRI instrument, researchers detected water and cosmic dust around aging star IRS 3, located only 0.55 light-years from Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the Milky Way's centre. The finding suggests water can form and survive far closer to a supermassive black hole than previously thought, despite the intense radiation there. Sagittarius A* has a mass of roughly 4 million suns.
