JWST spots "black hole star" shining 100 billion times brighter than a typical star
Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope discovered a mysterious red object from just a few hundred million years after the Big Bang that looks like an enormous star but shines far too brightly to be one. Dubbed a "black hole star," it may contain a black hole about 100,000 times the mass of the Sun wrapped inside a dense hydrogen cocoon roughly the size of our solar system. The discovery could help explain how supermassive black holes formed in the early universe.
