Online mummy trade thrives — researchers warn of hidden health hazards
A research team led by Dr Kirsty Squires analysed 128 online posts and auction listings offering human mummy remains for sale. Their findings were published in the International Journal of Cultural Property. The trade is often illegal and poses serious health risks to buyers who are typically unaware of the dangers. Social media has significantly boosted the international smuggling of such artefacts.
