Data of 19 million Poles leaked — beware of fake PESEL-change forms circulating online

Following the leak of medical data belonging to 19 million Polish citizens, Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski urged everyone to flag their PESEL number. Fake forms purporting to allow a PESEL number change began circulating in the media — authorities warn not to fill them in. Changing a PESEL number is not possible in practice, and the fake forms are likely a tool for harvesting personal data.
