Rare stellar stream in distant galaxy offers new way to map dark matter

Scientists have discovered a rare extragalactic stellar stream hidden within a distant galaxy, unlike any previously observed beyond the Milky Way. The find offers a novel method for measuring the distribution of dark matter in faraway galaxies. Until now, such stellar streams had only been well-studied within our own galaxy.
