Magdalena Fręch opened her WTA 1000 Cincinnati campaign with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Croatia's Antonia Ruzić on Thursday. The Polish player was only seriously tested in the second set. She will next face Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in the second round.
