European drought batters crops, threatening 1% EU GDP hit worth €180bn
A severe drought scorching much of Europe this summer is devastating crops across the continent, from potatoes in the Netherlands to corn in Bosnia. Dutch sustainability-focused bank Triodos has warned the damage could reduce EU GDP by 1 percent this year — equivalent to around €180 billion. Farmers are trying to adapt but face exceptionally difficult conditions.
