Poland launches frigate Wicher – its largest surface warship since the interwar period

The frigate ORP Wicher, built to a British design at the PGZ Stocznia Wojenna shipyard in Gdynia, was floated off a heavy-lift barge in the Gulf of Gdansk in a ceremony attended by President Karol Nawrocki. It is Poland's largest surface combatant since the interwar period and the first of three planned frigates. The vessel is part of a broad Polish Navy modernisation programme driven by growing Russian threats in the Baltic region.
