Russia ran at least 75 military flights to sub-Saharan Africa in 18 months

The Washington-based Center for Advanced Defense Studies (C4ADS) analysed ADS-B flight data from FlightRadar24 and found at least 75 flights by Russian military and military-linked aircraft to Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger between January 2025 and July 2026. Burkina Faso received the most flights at 56, followed by Mali with 38 and Niger with just six. C4ADS attributed Burkina Faso's high volume partly to its role as a transit hub between the other two countries.
