MIT study: EVs cut lifecycle emissions by 40–60% even on dirty power grids

An MIT study comprehensively dismantles the claim that electric vehicles simply shift pollution from tailpipe to smokestack. Accounting for grid mix, location, vehicle type, mileage and weather, the researchers found EVs reduce lifecycle emissions by 40–60% in most places. Even the dirtiest US power grids fail to make an EV the worse choice, and the advantage grows as grids get cleaner over time.
