Makarska confiscates towels left on beach — Croatia cracks down on spot-saving

Authorities in Makarska, one of Croatia's most popular Dalmatian coastal resorts, have launched early-morning beach patrols to remove towels and mats left out to reserve spots. The crackdown comes after the practice of claiming prime beach space long before actually using it became a widespread nuisance. Croatia joins other southern European resorts in tightening rules on the habit.
