California bans paraquat, herbicide linked to Parkinson's disease

California is banning paraquat, a highly toxic herbicide already outlawed in more than 70 countries including China, the UK and the EU. Public health advocates say it is virtually proven to cause Parkinson's disease. Despite this, the US Environmental Protection Agency reapproved paraquat in both 2021 and 2024.
