Scientists reconstruct Mieszko I's diet — pork dominated, fish tied to Christianity

Prof. Daniel Makowiecki of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń analysed tens of thousands of bone remains from Poznań's Ostrów Tumski and Ostrów Lednicki. The research shows that pork dominated in the era of the first Piast rulers, consumed by all social classes. The adoption of Christianity brought fish into the court's diet, where they had previously been rare.
