Assumption of Mary draws crowds of faithful across Poland on August 15

August 15 in Poland marks both Polish Armed Forces Day — commemorating the victory over the Bolsheviks — and the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, locally known as Matka Boża Zielna. Faithful bring herbs and flowers to churches, and pilgrims fill the roads leading to major Marian shrines across the country.
