PGG and JSW to cut 8,500 miners by year-end as coal becomes unprofitable

Polish mining companies PGG and JSW plan to cut around 8,500 jobs by the end of the year — a rate six times higher than the average of the past four years. Michał Hetmański, head of the Instrat Foundation, says coal mining in Poland is barely profitable. The mass exodus of workers is accelerating the decline of the Polish coal industry.
