Stanford AI designs new viruses — researchers say it's for humanity's benefit

Researchers from Stanford University, working with scientists from several other institutions, allowed AI models to design new viruses. They insist the goal is to benefit humanity — for instance by developing new therapies or vaccines. The experiment nonetheless raises questions about the ethics and safety of such research.
