Russia's Microsoft Office rival shuts offices and lays off staff amid $107m loss

MyOffice, Russia's flagship Microsoft Office alternative developed by New Cloud Technologies, has closed its St. Petersburg and Innopolis development centres, relocating remaining staff to Kaspersky Lab's Moscow office. The parent company restated its accounts, raising the net loss from 4.02 billion to 8.82 billion rubles (roughly $107 million), while revenue halved to about 1 billion rubles. Majority owner Kaspersky Lab (68.8%) has shifted the product to "slow burn" mode, with its CEO admitting that import substitution does not work in the office software segment.
