20 years watching one blazar revealed an unpredicted spectral anomaly

A Polish and German research team spent nearly twenty years continuously monitoring a single blazar using two orbiting observatories, an approach opposite to the standard short observing campaigns. In 2012 data, they found a spectral feature that no existing model had predicted. Blazars are galaxies whose jets point almost directly at Earth and flicker across the entire electromagnetic spectrum simultaneously.
