WHO warns DRC Ebola outbreak may become largest ever as vaccine trial talks advance
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned in Geneva that the ongoing Bundibugyo virus outbreak in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo is already the second-largest Ebola epidemic on record and is spreading faster than any previous outbreak. At its current pace it could surpass the 2014–2016 West African epidemic that was the deadliest in history. Talks between DRC authorities and the WHO on launching a multi-armed Phase 3 clinical trial of Ebola vaccines are advancing.
