Hungary builds emergency dam on Danube to protect Paks nuclear plant cooling

Hungary's government has ordered the immediate construction of a riverbed weir on the Danube between Dunaszentbenedek and the Paks nuclear power plant to maintain the water level needed to cool the reactors, Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced. Until the structure is completed, two 80-metre barges will be submerged in the river as an emergency measure to raise the water level. The intervention comes amid falling water levels on the Danube.
