Transnistria as a Russian spy haven — could Romanowski have fled there?

Transnistria — a separatist strip of land averaging 15 km wide that formally belongs to Moldova — can only be entered from Moldova or Ukraine. If Polish MP Marcin Romanowski is indeed there, he would have had to travel by air via Chișinău or overland from Hungary through Romania. The region is regarded as a hub for Russian intelligence services.
