Adult brain can repair itself far better than scientists thought, mouse study shows

Researchers studying mice discovered a specialised group of brain support cells called astrocytes that respond to brain injury by rebuilding lost cellular networks. Rather than simply migrating to the damaged area, these cells create new nuclei and send them along long cellular extensions to repopulate injured regions. The finding suggests the adult brain has far greater regenerative capacity than previously believed.
