US inflation eases in July as gasoline and grocery prices fall
US consumer prices rose 3.4% year-on-year in July, a smaller annual increase than in May or June. The easing was driven by falling gasoline and grocery prices. The data makes it less likely that the Federal Reserve will feel the need to raise interest rates in September.
