Russian MP proposes mandatory passport identification for all internet users
Andrei Svintsov, deputy chair of the Russian State Duma's information policy committee, has proposed eliminating online anonymity and requiring all internet account holders to be identified by passport. The proposal would mean every internet user in Russia must be registered by name. It is the latest in a series of Russian legislative moves targeting online freedom of expression.
