Toyota recalls 508,000 Camry Hybrids over blank dashboard display defect
Toyota has issued a recall covering 508,354 Camry Hybrid vehicles from the 2025–2026 model years sold in the United States. The 7-inch instrument cluster display can boot up completely blank at startup, and turn signals and warning buzzers may also fail alongside the screen. The 7-inch display can boot up completely blank at startup.
Turn signals and warning buzzers can quit alongside the screen.
Reports first reached Toyota back in July of 2024.
As new vehicles lean harder on screens for core functions, display-related recalls have become a regular fixture across the industry. Toyota is the latest automaker to issue one , and it’s a big one, hitting more than half a million cars in the United States.

Toyota says 508,354 Camry Hybrid models from the 2025-2026 model years use a 7-inch instrument cluster display running software that appears on no other Toyota or Lexus in the lineup. That screen can trip up during start-up and come up blank, leaving the driver with nothing where the gauges should be.

Worse still, the same software fault can knock out the turn signal lamps, hazard lamps, and a handful of warning buzzers, including the driver and passenger seat belt chimes and the key-in-ignition reminder. That puts affected cars out of step with US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards covering controls and displays, along with lamps and reflective devices.

Toyota Has Known About The Issue For Two Years
Impacted Toyota Camry Hybrids were manufactured between August 15, 2024, and June 9, 2026. Toyota says it received reports in July 2024 about these screens remaining blank during startup, but it was unable to replicate the issue. By October 2025, Toyota had received additional reports about the screen issue, and this time the supplier, Visteon Corporation, was able to replicate the fault.
Earlier this year, Toyota and Visteon continued to investigate the issue and, in late July, once again replicated the problem when starting up a Camry Hybrid. The carmaker informed dealerships of the recall on August 6 and will alert owners to it between September 21 and October 5 of this year.
Although this is a software issue, it is not one that can be remedied with an over-the-air software update. Instead, owners will be asked to return their vehicle to a dealer where the screen’s software will be updated free of charge.
