Germany grants BND spies powers to conduct sabotage and offensive cyber ops

Chancellor Friedrich Merz's cabinet adopted an intelligence reform on Wednesday granting Germany's foreign spy agency, the BND, sweeping new powers. Agents will be able to conduct acts of sabotage, offensive cyber operations and more aggressive espionage — previously barred since WWII to prevent a repeat of Nazi-era abuses. The move is a direct response to growing threats from Russia and other adversaries.
