Kadyrov refused to send large numbers of Chechens to fight in Ukraine

Ramzan Kadyrov reportedly refused to send large numbers of Chechen fighters to the war in Ukraine, according to a source close to the republic's leadership speaking to The Economist. The Chechen leader is said to be unwilling to sacrifice his people in the name of the "Russian world" ideology. Chechens fighting alongside Russian forces are described as relatively small volunteer units.
