47-year-old Robert-Michon qualifies for European Athletics final, six years older than Włodarczyk

French discus thrower Melina Robert-Michon, aged 47, qualified for the final at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, with all three of her throws good enough to advance — she first competed at the European Championships 28 years ago. Polish thrower Weronika Muszyńska was eliminated, while Daria Zabawska scraped through with her third and final throw, reduced to tears of joy. Later in the day, 41-year-old Anita Włodarczyk competes for a hammer throw medal.
