What scientists learn from solar eclipses — from the Sun's corona to animal behaviour
Total solar eclipses give astronomers a rare chance to study the Sun's corona, normally invisible against the Sun's brightness. Scientists also document changes in animal behaviour and human emotional responses during totality. Olivier Joie-La Marle, Head of Space Science at France's Centre National d'Études Spatiales, notes that eclipses have yielded scientific insights for over two millennia. The August eclipse crossing northern Spain is considered one of Europe's most anticipated astronomical events of the decade.
