Soil fungus could help African farmers fight devastating armyworm pest

South African scientist Letodi Luki Mathulwe discovered that a naturally occurring soil fungus kills African armyworm caterpillars, one of the most destructive crop pests in east and southern Africa. The white fungus was found coating dead caterpillars in fields, prompting further research into its potential as a biological pest control.
