An 82-year-old woman in Bologna, Italy, was admitted to hospital with four days of worsening abdominal pain, constipation, nausea and vomiting. Tests revealed an elevated white blood cell count and a CT scan showed a solid object causing small bowel obstruction. During surgery, doctors removed the mass, and a live bug-like parasite immediately jumped out — identified as the cause of the blockage.
