Scientists propose using moonquakes to locate hidden water ice on the Moon
Scientists have devised a new method to locate water ice deposits on and beneath the Moon's surface using seismic waves from moonquakes as locator beacons. Ice hidden under the lunar dust is invisible to conventional imaging and requires specialised mapping techniques. Seismic waves behave differently when passing through ice, making it possible to pinpoint the deposits.
