Szwed just 0.32s behind four-time European champion in 400m semi-final

Maksymilian Szwed ran 400 metres twice on Monday — first in the individual heats and then in the mixed relay final. In the individual semi-final he faced four-time European champion Matthew Hudson-Smith and under-23 champion Jonas Phijffers. Szwed finished just 0.32 seconds behind and had to wait to learn whether he had made the final.
