47 years ago a mid-air collision over Dnipro wiped out Uzbekistan's greatest football team

On 11 August 1979, two Soviet passenger aircraft collided over Dnipropetrovsk due to air traffic control errors, killing all 178 people on board. Among the victims were the players and coaching staff of Pakhtakor Tashkent, the greatest club in Uzbek football history. Soviet authorities kept the details of the disaster secret for years.
