Iran executes 23-year-old woman who claimed self-defence against sexual assault
Marzieh Nieri, 23, was executed at Qazvin Central Prison after a court rejected her claim that she wounded a man in self-defence against a sexual assault. Her death brings to at least 14 the number of women executed in Iran since the start of 2026. The case has drawn widespread condemnation from human rights advocates.
