France drought worsens — 70% of country under water restrictions amid heatwaves

France is experiencing an exceptional drought worsening under successive heatwaves this summer. Two thirds of groundwater levels are currently below normal, and around 70% of the country has been placed under water restrictions to help preserve supplies.
