Ervebo vaccine trial launches in Congo as Ebola outbreak spreads — Bundibugyo strain is the challenge

A clinical trial of the Ervebo vaccine — previously used against the Zaire strain of Ebolavirus — has been launched in the Democratic Republic of Congo to test its effectiveness against the current Bundibugyo strain driving the outbreak. The trial comes as the Congo epidemic becomes the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak on record. Researchers aim to determine whether Ervebo offers meaningful protection against the different strain.
