Syrian court sentences Assad and his brother to death for war crimes

A Syrian court has sentenced deposed dictator Bashar al-Assad and his brother Maher to death in absentia for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the country's 14-year civil war. Assad's cousin Atef Najib was also sentenced to death in the same trial. All three are currently outside Syria.
