Romania to shut nuclear reactor due to Danube drought — 10% of national power at risk

One of the two reactors at Romania's Cernavodă nuclear power plant will be shut down on 13 August due to critically low water levels in the Danube river, which is essential for cooling the installation. Deputy chief of the state water management company Sorin Rindasu said the shutdown is unavoidable and could last up to two weeks. The reactor supplies approximately 10% of Romania's national electricity output.
