US Navy tests AI-powered sonar system for submarine hunting during RIMPAC

The US Navy tested Lockheed Martin's SensorMAX AI-powered sonar system during the RIMPAC multinational exercise near Hawaii in July. MH-60R helicopters dropped sonobuoys whose acoustic data was analysed by SensorMAX, which ground operators retrained on new sounds in minutes. Updated AI models were then transmitted wirelessly via an encrypted data link directly back to helicopters and the fleet for near-real-time submarine identification.
