240-million-year-old Brazilian reptile fossil reveals world before dinosaurs and crocodiles

Palaeontologists have described a 240-million-year-old small predatory reptile discovered in Brazil, dating to just before the rise of dinosaurs and crocodiles in the Triassic period. The creature had unusually positioned legs that may have made it more agile than earlier reptiles. Its close relatives were previously known mostly from other continents, suggesting the group spread much farther across the Triassic world than scientists had realised.
