NASA's "Big Bang" operation buys Voyager 2 more time in deep space
NASA engineers have found a way to extend the life of Voyager 2, which left Earth nearly half a century ago. In an operation nicknamed the "Big Bang," the team simultaneously shut down power-hungry hardware and switched to lower-power alternatives while keeping the spacecraft warm enough to survive in deep space. The manoeuvre successfully buys the probe more operational time.
