Etna eruption closes Catania airport, Katowice flights diverted

A new eruption of Mount Etna has blanketed the airspace around Catania with volcanic ash, forcing the closure of Catania airport. Monday morning flights from Katowice were diverted to other airports, and return flights to Sicily were suspended. The highest aviation alert level is in effect for the area.
