Barrick and Newmont merge mines ahead of North American gold assets IPO

Mining giant Barrick Gold announced Monday a deal with Newmont to combine some of their gold mining operations, clearing the path for an IPO of Barrick's North American gold assets before year-end. Despite the announcement, Barrick's stock slid following the news. The agreement settles an existing dispute between the two companies.
