World champion Furlani injured on day one of European Athletics Championships

World long jump champion Mattia Furlani suffered an injury on the very first day of the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. The Italian managed only one jump in qualifying before leaving the stadium in a wheelchair. His participation in the competition is now in serious doubt.
