Indonesia lays keel of first Scorpène submarine — the type once proposed for Poland's Orka programme
A steel-cutting ceremony took place at the Surabaya shipyard in Indonesia, marking the start of construction of the country's first Scorpène-class submarine. The same submarine type was previously proposed to Poland as part of the Orka programme, in a variant armed with cruise missiles. Poland's Orka programme has yet to be realised, while Indonesia is now moving forward with its own underwater fleet.
